Direction of Rotation
[edit]

Rotation on an inclined axis is fine for visual conceptual purposes, but I think that the most important axis in an octahedron is that through the top and bottom of the two pyramidal halves of the octahedral structure. And that concept allows the structure of the octahedron to have an up or down orientation orientation of spin, with the only question being as to how the spin direction is related to the orientation direction.
